When we choose to live and lead with presence, purpose and compassion we live in a way that is deeply anchored to a deeper sense of self, deeply connected to our sense of purpose and mission.
I see you and I understand what this feels like…..
Growing up, I was always ambitious, and anyone who met me throughout my executive career described me as driven and focussed. And yet, I knew I longed for something different - a different way of leading without knowing what that was.
My ambition and drive carried me through the challenge of moving continents to start a new life in a new continent and country in the middle of completing my MBA thesis. Ambition and drive carried me through working in sectors as diverse as hotels, automotive retail, technology, restaurants and travel while climbing the corporate ladder – sacrificing who I was to achieve more and more.
Two incidents stand vividly in my memory as examples of this.
One was working in the office until 11pm on a Friday night while my then-boyfriend, subsequently my husband, sat at home wondering where on earth I was!
​
Another was taking a job which required me to leave home at 6am every morning while my husband was still asleep to beat the traffic to the office on my 50 mile commute. This would repeat itself at the end of every day, when I would leave the office late to beat the evening traffic, arriving home at around 8 or 9pm. I did this for almost 4 years. This left me with no time for family, no time for good nutrition and exercise, no time for meditation, contemplation or any other Spiritual practice.

Despite the sacrifices I was never satisfied, always pushing for more – more money, better job titles, more influence.
And I believed that in order to achieve those things I had to be like everyone else. That I had to be the kind of Leader I saw around me. That being different would not serve me well. That prioritising my Spiritual growth, my health and my family were not important.

In my first C-suite role, I faced the daunting challenge of raising a formal grievance against my CEO for inappropriate and bullying behaviour – an experience that tested me to my core – but made me truly realise the importance of authenticity and alignment for the first time. In the midst of all the stress and anxiety, I discovered mindful meditation, my first doorway into Spiritual practice. The calm and clarity it brought were immediate, and that simple practice became a powerful anchor - one that continues to guide and sustain me to this day.
In addition to feeling calmer and less anxious, I discovered that meditation also brought the unexpected benefits of becoming more focused, more intentional and more aligned. This started to change how I showed up as a Leader.
A few years later I was diagnosed with an Auto-immune Disease. By this stage I was almost at the peak of my career, and had only just started at a new organisation in a C-suite position. The diagnosis floored me.
It forced me to reconsider my ambitions, and how I was going to have to live my life to co-exist with my condition.
I had to learn to adapt, to slow down, to come inward and home to myself. I learned the importance of nutrition and food as medicine, of good sleep hygiene and of stress management through meditation, yoga and pilates.
With my symptoms finally under control, I was able to thrive once more, I was able to continue performing at the highest level. I climbed the career ladder one final time, stepping into the role of Managing Director for a global online business, while also serving as a Non-Executive Director across several boards.
But I felt something was missing. Something felt misaligned. I didn’t feel like me.
And then Covid hit.
Though I was pouring every ounce of energy into keeping the business alive, the absence of other demands offered a precious moment to pause, reset, and gain perspective.
To reflect.
To consider.
I realised that for too long, I had been keeping the “Spiritual” me divorced and separated from the “business” me, fearing that those I worked with wouldn’t understand the nature of Spirituality, that they would judge me harshly for it and that it would negatively impact my career prospects.
I didn’t believe they were interested in Spirituality or even open to it.
How wrong was I!
What I learned was that in order to truly come into alignment as a Leader requires those of us who identify with Spirituality to bring our whole selves into the workplace, with all that we are and with our entire Spiritual being.
I learned that there are so many others who, like me and you, had resisted the call to bring their whole selves into the workplace, but who desperately wanted to find a way to do exactly that.
Leaders who understand that if they truly want to live in alignment, to bring the best of who they are as Leaders and who they can be, they need to find a way.
I observed that Leaders who were able to do just that didn’t measure themselves by the standards of others. They understand their value and their worth beyond the standards we’ve come to accept. They understand that the contribution they make and the value they bring comes from a place deep within themselves, from a place of deeply knowing themselves.
They have learned to bring their inner world into harmony with their deepest truth - and in that alignment, their outer reality begins to mirror that sense of wholeness.
It wasn’t the result of striving or force, but rather a quiet, graceful return to remembering their own divine essence.
And through that learning I came into my own deep alignment, reconciling my Spirituality with my professional world.
What I’ve experienced since has been nothing short of magical:
✔︎ My relationship with myself shifted from judgment to kindness, moving from a place of self-criticism to one of self-compassion.

✔︎ I learned that in order to truly come into alignment I had to fulfil the mission I came here for - helping others like me to align their Spiritual selves with the workplace - culminating in this book!

✔︎ I successfully transitioned from a full time Executive position to sitting on the boards of multiple well-known companies as a Non-Executive Director, where I continue applying my professional skills in the workplace today.

✔︎ I set up and run a successful energy healing practice – supporting others in coming into alignment, ease and flow through powerful energy healing modalities.

✔︎ I found that once I opened myself to receiving abundance and living in this way - the right people, opportunities and experiences began to show up in the most unexpected places with ease.

As I shared these principles with executives and Leaders caught in the cycle of relentless striving, I witnessed remarkable transformations. High-performing Leaders, who on paper “had it all” but felt a persistent emptiness, began discovering a sense of fulfilment no promotion or bonus could ever provide. Overworked, constantly doing, and stretched thin, they found peace in simply accepting themselves as the Spiritual Leaders they longed to be.
I watched Leaders reconnect with their deep inner wisdom, guiding their teams with authenticity rather than ego. I observed relationships shift from transactional to truly collaborative. I saw work become deeply aligned with purpose, creating impact that felt both meaningful and sustainable. And, as a natural by product, abundance and opportunity flowed with ease - no longer forced through constant struggle, sacrifice and hardship.
